lately, every time i swing by the goodwill i find something new i must have.
it calls out to me and asks me to take it home.
i swear it does.
like, these beautiful blue ball jars!
all ten of them wanted to come home and pretty up my mantel.
and, this vintage globe.
it now lives on my file cabinet!
i’m in love with this wood box!
i’m not sure what it was original used for, but i’m storing all of our school supplies in it.
i found these glass pieces for our large shelf in the living room.
i filled the small guy with dried up sticks from our backyard.
bringing outdoor things in like rocks, sticks, shells and leaves is fun and always beautiful!
i also picked up these wire metal baskets to hold books on our new dresser.
this dresser was not a goodwill find…
it was FREE!
that’s right, FREE!
my mother-in-law was getting rid of it and asked us if we wanted it.
she loved it, but no longer had room for it.
so, does the goodwill call your name?
have you found anything that called out to you that you just had to take home?
we’re nearing the start of the school year and if you need a gift for a great teacher…
look no further!
i filled up my shop with sets of the cutest chevron pins!
over the last few days i’ve been cleaning and organizing like crazy.
wiping out the pantry, packing up clothes the kids have outgrown,
re- arranging the laundry room and sorting through the toy bins.
(i feel like i finally have time now that we’re on summer break.)
so, the other day in the middle of my cleaning spree
(while i was neurotically wiping off the bookcase)
i looked up and saw papers.
piles and piles of papers.
papers with no place to call home.
i knew we needed a place for these stacks and fast.
within minutes i was on craig’s list and found this file cabinet for $25.00!
it was just what i needed!
pure, sweet luck.
i went to pick it up and on the way home grabbed a couple of cans of the most lovely teal spray paint.
and 2-3 coats later…
here she is!
all painted up and looking oh, so sweet.
i love that color.
that lovely, lovely color.
be still my heart.
after i awkwardly drug it inside and got it into place
i stuck a dry erase board to the side using
double-sided foam tape.
i then took some of jonah’s old flash cards
snipped them down to size
and slipped them into place.
the perfect finishing touch. : )
i filled her full
(and i do mean full)
of those sky high stacks of papers.
and, i’m a much, much happier girl.
today, i thought i’d share the other part of our entryway with you.
it’s on the other side of the front door.
last week i shared our family command center
which, i’ve already re-arranged since you last saw it.
i simply can’t help myself.
there might actually be something wrong with me.
we’re not sure.
we’re looking into it. ; )
i put the pockets on the other side
and added a picture frame and an embroidery hoop to pretty it up.
okay, back to the other side of our entryway…
i got the idea here in this martha stewart organizing book.
is there anything you can’t do?
i knew i needed something for all of our coats, backpacks and keys.
i saw this and fell in love with it.
so, i put my husband, josh to work.
he can build things.
he’s handy like that.
he went to home depot and grabbed 2 pieces of furniture grade 1×4 pine
and drilled holes for the coat pegs.
then, i painted them white.
it has an upper and a lower set of pegs.
i love that i can put my purse way up high so the kids can’t get to it.
and, i love all the pegs down low.
i love that the kiddos can reach all of their things.
they can take down and hang up everything without any help.
the pegs are large and sturdy.
perfect for heavy winter coats.
it even has a spot for keys, dexter’s leash and sunglasses.
it’s super functional for our family.
it has worked out really well for us over the years.
i truly adore it.
especially, when we have lots of friends and family over for a visit.
okay, now here’s what it actually looks like…
i’m just keepin’ it real.
it’s been a very busy week.
the weather warmed up so we’ve spent a lot of time out and about.
it’s been lovely. just lovely.
we went to the library.
(the best part of the trip… the windows)
for the first time in weeks we had soccer practice.
and a week would not be complete without a trip to target. (and a trip to the snack bar)
i’ve also been hard at work trying to get my shop filled back up. yay!
i’ve been crafting. up to my elbows in fabric scraps. mmm… fabric scraps.
i decided our house needed some spring inside, too. so, i got to work making fabric garland.
they’re so pretty that i had to make a few and put them up all over the house.
simple and so sweet.
well, it’s spring time in colorado and that usually means snow.
Snow Storm in April of 2013
lots and lots of snow.
lots of soggy coats, hats and mittens. and, plenty of steamy baths and hot meals to warm up my babes. all that snow and sitting around the house was the perfect excuse to finally figure out what to do with my thrift store scabble tile. so, i went to work. i had a roll of magnets and i simply snipped and placed them on the back of each tile. easy peasy. they don’t really hold anything up on the fridge, but my 4 year old son thinks they’re great. he’s been spelling small words for days now. see, he can hardly keep his hands (and dirty fingernails) off them for a picture.
