a file cabinet re-do

IMG_2350

over the last few days i’ve been cleaning and organizing like crazy.

wiping out the pantry,  packing up clothes the kids have outgrown,

re- arranging the laundry room and sorting through the toy bins.

(i feel like i finally have time now that we’re on summer break.)

so, the other day in the middle of my cleaning spree

(while  i was neurotically wiping off the bookcase)

i looked up and saw papers.

piles and piles of papers.

papers with no place to call home.

i knew we needed a place for these stacks and fast.

within minutes i was on craig’s list and found this file cabinet for $25.00!

it was just what i needed!

pure, sweet luck.

i went  to pick it up and on the way home grabbed a couple of cans of the most lovely teal spray paint.

DSC_3138

and 2-3 coats later…

IMG_2344

 here she is!

all painted up and looking oh, so sweet.

i love that color.

that lovely, lovely color.

be still my heart.

IMG_2346

after i awkwardly drug it inside and got it into place

i stuck a dry erase board to the side using

 double-sided foam tape.

IMG_2351

i then took some of jonah’s old flash cards

snipped them down to size

and slipped them into place.

the perfect finishing touch. : )

IMG_2350

 i filled her full

(and i do mean full)

of those sky high stacks of papers.

and, i’m a much, much happier girl.

it’s summer time

DSC_2976

well, it’s officially our summer break!

we’re done with school and we had our last soccer game of the season

here’s our boy at his game.

(that’s him with his orange cleats.)

i’m not sure if you have ever seen a bunch of 4 year olds play soccer,

but it’s just too cute.

DSC_2984

it’s like a bunch of little bees buzzing around their hive.

DSC_2973

they sure are sweet and try so hard!

DSC_3005

here they are sitting with their coach.

DSC_3028

another action shot.

look at him go.

this kid loves soccer.

DSC_2997

i looked over mid game and saw this…

my daughter with her brother’s sunglasses on

picking her nose with 2 fingers

both nostrils.

i’m not sure why, but i always seem to catch this kid

with her finger in her nose.

DSC_0088

see, look…

here we are last year in florida.

look at that baby…

the ultimate nose pick!

good stuff.

it’s one of my favorite pictures

and every time i see it i laugh.

DSC_3049

anyway, at the end of the game they all got trophies.

DSC_3052

he couldn’t have been more excited or proud!

all the way home he shouted over and over, “and the winner is… jonah!”

as he held his trophy high over his head.

too silly.

IMG_2980

because it’s officially our summer break,

jonah and i sat down and started a summer list.

i love hearing all of his little ideas…

get cupcakes.

go on an adventure.

go visit the mountains.

so sweet.

IMG_2986

IMG_2976

IMG_2987

yep, summer, we love you and we’re so glad you’re finally here.

mmmm…. sweet, sweet summer.

cows & fabric

IMG_2718

we’ve had quite the week around here.

between end of the year picnics, field trips, house work and soccer

we’ve been busy.

IMG_2716

IMG_2714

IMG_2712

IMG_2721

IMG_2710

i’ve also been busy buying this!

IMG_2691

 so, i can make these!

IMG_2942

to put on this!

isn’t it pretty?!

IMG_2915

and, they’re so much fun to make!

i love digging through my fabric stash and putting all of the colors together.

so cute!

they’re in my shop and looking for a good home. : )

our coat hooks

IMG_2578

today, i thought i’d share the other part of our entryway with you.

it’s on the other side of the front door.

see?

IMG_2569

last week i shared our family command center

which, i’ve already re-arranged since you last saw it.

i simply can’t help myself.

there might actually be something wrong with me.

we’re not sure.

we’re looking into it. ; )

IMG_2568

i put the pockets on the other side

and added a picture frame and an embroidery hoop to pretty it up.

okay, back to the other side of our entryway…

IMG_2676

i got the idea here in this martha stewart organizing book.

oh, martha…

is there anything you can’t do?

IMG_2675

i knew i needed something for all of our coats, backpacks and keys.

i saw this and fell in love with it.

so, i put my husband, josh to work.

he can build things.

he’s handy like that.

IMG_2679

he went to home depot and grabbed 2 pieces of furniture grade 1×4 pine

and drilled holes for the coat pegs.

then, i painted them white.

IMG_2683

it has an upper and a lower set of pegs.

i love that i can put my purse way up high so the kids can’t get to it.

and, i love all the pegs down low.

i love that the kiddos can reach all of their things.

they can take down and hang up everything without any help.

IMG_2581

the pegs are large and sturdy.

perfect for heavy winter coats.

IMG_2582

it even has a spot for keys, dexter’s leash and sunglasses.

IMG_2682

it’s super functional for our family.

it has worked out really well for us over the years.

i truly adore it.

especially, when we have lots of friends and family over for a visit.

IMG_2687

okay, now here’s what it actually looks like…

i’m just keepin’ it real.

happy friday!

IMG_2665

i just added some happy spring pins to my shop!

they are the perfect gift for a special teacher.

happy friday and have a great weekend!

mother’s day fun.

IMG_2528

how was your mother’s day?

mine was a delight.

we went out for breakfast and then walked around old town.

IMG_2530

the kids played.

IMG_2536

IMG_2533

IMG_2531

the weather was gorgeous!

it was so much fun.

we all had a blast!

IMG_2556

when we got home they surprised me with flowers.

and, the house stayed clean (kinda).

IMG_2542

it was mostly because the kids played outside a bunch.

it was hot enough to turn on the sprinkler. yay!

IMG_2541

i don’t think i’ve ever seen this lady happier. : )

IMG_2306

after we all played outside i ran out for some mommy time.

just me and world market.

i love you, world market.

i love your cute bar stools.

IMG_2303

IMG_2524

and your adorable (and reasonably priced) jute rugs.

IMG_2305

i love your lovely utensils holder and it is sure to find a home next to my stove.

IMG_2304

hello again, sweet cake carrier.

lookin’ good.

IMG_2526

and, how cute is this kitchen brush?

i truly do love you, world market.

and i miss you when i’m away.

until we meet again…

maybe next mother’s day. ; )

happy mother’s day

IMG_2487

yesterday, this sweet boy came home with a surprise for me for mother’s day!

IMG_2480

he made flowers in preschool and was so proud. : )

happy mother’s day!

our family command center

IMG_2448

today, i thought i’d share our family command center with you.

it’s constantly changing to fit our increasingly busy lives, but here’s what it looks like now.

IMG_2450

it’s in the entryway of our house, near our front door.

and, it gets a ton of use. more than i ever thought it would.

IMG_1133

the chalk board wall is below and the kids love it!

IMG_2451

on the far left are pocket organizers from target.

IMG_2459

on the pocket organizers i put a few yellow metal buckets to hold chalk and magnets. $1.oo each!

IMG_2460

i also have orange binder clips to hold gift cards, coupons and receipts.

IMG_2461

on the very top i store magazines and library books.

i love these pockets. they’re really useful!

IMG_2452

to the right of those is a simple cork board i found at the goodwill years ago.

and, under that is a dry erase calendar with schedules on it.

it’s mostly just for my 4 year old , though.

IMG_2453

next to the calendar is our “what’s up weekly board.”

we got the idea here. my son loves it!

IMG_2454

he has so much fun moving the picture magnets.

it has really helped him learn his days of the week.

and, he loves to move the star, too!

IMG_2457

and finally, more cork boards for pictures, art projects, notes and more.

i took 2 old canvases and put a thin layer of cork on top.

then i very simply (and sloppily) hot glued a nice thick fabric all the way around the edges while pulling it tight.

that’s it. easy peasy and pretty.

like i said before, our family command center is always changing and i’m sure i’ll add more to it soon.

stayed tuned! : )

baby chicks

IMG_2407

every spring our grandma sam (my mother-in-law) gets a few of these sweet little girls.

IMG_2412

and, this time she brought them by for a visit.

IMG_2410

they’re so fluffy and sweet.

IMG_2411

the kids love them.

IMG_2408

But, who wouldn’t?

just look at that sweet little face.

IMG_2415

and, this sweet little face.

my boy was so happy.

IMG_2405

yes, i see chickens of our own in the near future. : )
